Frequently asked questions

Can you backwash with dirty water?

We do not recommend backwashing with dirty water. If this happens, immediately run at least one gallon of water through the filter and dispose before filtering water for consumption.

What are the dimensions for the replacement parts?

For a replacement syringe, you can find a 50 ml syringe at most medical, hardware, or drug stores.

As for compatibility with tubing and threading, we are compatible with ¼ inch inner diameter tubing and 28 mm threading.

The gaskets can be found on our website under “filter accessories”. If you’re looking to find one quickly, it is 0.125 inches thick (3.15 mm) with an outer diameter of 0.985 inches (25 mm) and an inner diameter of 0.59 inches (15 mm).

Is the Tap Filter dishwasher safe?

No, the tap filter is NOT dishwasher safe. We recommend backwashing and air drying the filter before storing.

What is the maximum pressure for Sawyer Filters?

The optimal pressure for our filters is 20 psi. At 30 psi they will develop stress cracks and burst over time, and at 40 psi they will burst.

Will the filter/purifier remove salt?

No, the filters will not remove salt.

Why is my filter popping off the Tap adaptor?

The Tap filter is designed to pop off of the Tap adaptor when pressure exceeds 20psi. This is to protect the fibers from damage.

Can I attach my Tap Filter directly to a tap?

Sawyer recommends always attaching the Tap filter to the Tap adaptor.

Are there any water pressure restrictions to consider?

Yes. For threaded faucets, we highly recommend using the Threaded Spigot Adapter to make sure the filter pops off of the tap before the fibers are damaged from excessive pressure.  Excessive pressure can absolutely damage the fibers.

How much water can be filtered/purified per day?

Each Tap Filter is capable of filtering more than 500 gallons of water per day.

How long will the Tap Filter last?

Proper use and maintenance of the filter will allow for this filter to be used for 10+ years.

When should I clean my Tap Filter?

We recommend routine maintenance to maximize the filter’s flow rate and longevity.  By regularly backwashing the filter with more pressure than when filtering water, you can restore up to 98.5% of the filter’s flow rate.
